Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin is investigating Trump Son-In-Law Jared Kushner for potential FCPA violations in connection with a land purchase in Albania.
Raskin’s sophomoric letter to Kushner begins:
“You may have been too busy causing a new foreign policy fiasco in Albania after your yachting foray in the Adriatic to get back to us on some questions we have about your stark conflicts of interest taking place right here in America. So, in case you had forgotten about the existence of a congressional investigation into your conflicts of interest and corrupt business practices, I write to remind you of your obligation to respond to congressional investigative inquiries and also to notify you that we have expanded our investigation to include your suspect real estate practices.”
The letter states:
“According to published reports, your wife, Ivanka Trump, stated that you “found” an island off the Albanian coast while yachting around the Adriatic. Of course, you did not “find” it: Sazan has been used intermittently as a military installation from Roman times through the
Ottoman Empire until it was recently turned into a protected environmental area and wildlife refuge. Undeterred, you assembled several Qatari billionaire partners and launched a plan to build a luxury resort for extremely wealthy people near or on the island. The government of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, which has long sought to influence American politics, gave you approval, but the Prime Minister could not win the approval of his own electorate for
your dream project.”
The letter concludes:
“We therefore reiterate our prior requests and add some below, including those necessary to determine whether your conduct should be investigated under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and spur legislative reforms.
The House Committee on the Judiciary is investigating your conduct and that of your firm and business partners with the goal of learning information critical to reforming our bribery laws, conflict of interest provisions, other statutes and rules governing the conduct of government and special government employees, the Foreign Agents Registration Act, and the FCPA.
Please provide the following records, along with the records responsive to my previous requests, no later than 5:00 p.m. on September 7, 2026:
1. All records and communications between you or any affiliated entity and any representative of the Albanian government relating to real estate, business deals, or protests in that country;
2. All records and communications between you or any affiliated entity and any representative of the United States government relating to real estate, business deals, or protests in Albania; and
3. All records relating to the approval or consideration of any real estate project in Albania, including but not limited to purchases, government approvals, payments, or investments.”
